Magical Bora Bora Tahiti

First let me apologize for not writing sooner – let’s just say that it is extremely hard to post to the blog for many reasons.  Second, puppy is completely exhausted from our travels and has turned the writing over to me (Lori). So . . .

We left LA at 10:00 that night and flew for nearly 23 hours to get to Bora Bora (we flew into New Zealand so went ahead a day only to fly back to the prior day going back to Bora Bora)!! Flying first class is the best because we had beds to sleep in! When we landed, the airport was on this little island where your hotel boat awaits to take you to your home for the week. Ia orana is the Tahitian greeting . . .

Okay, for every preconceived notion that you had in your mind about Bora Bora and its beauty – it’s all true! My words will not touch the description it deserves, so I hope the pics help. The water is a perfect symphony of every blue and green color in the spectrum – and crystal clear all around.  My eyes danced from one color into the next and the hues were so magnificent that I couldn’t pick a favorite.  Our overwater bungalow was everything we thought it would be – magical and mystical sitting on those stilts over the water looking at a beautiful mountain. We had glass windows in our living room and bathroom to see any fish friends below along with a deck that we could jump in and swim or snorkel  from.

The people of Bora Bora are native Tahitians and French (France owns all of French Polynesia). Tahitian people were so laid back and extremely friendly. They think they are the richest people (although certainly not monetarily) because they have friends, family, and the most beautiful place in the world to live. (I think I agree). The Four Seasons Resort  grounds were filled with exotic flora and they had a beautiful lagoon to swim and snorkel in. We played tennis, paddle boarded, kayaked, played with the paddle boats, and jet skied. We also had a beautiful sunset cruise around the island.  We had a day boat cruise that we swam with black tip reef sharks in one area and then went and swam with sting rays – so much fun!  We also did a lot a snorkeling out on these boats and the fish were magnificent! Very sad to leave a place of such beauty and serenity, but we boarded our boat and off to New Zealand . . .

Welcome to Bora Bora!

Sharks and Rays - oh my! The water color is impossible to describe.
Swimming with rays.  Very weird!!!
Toothless in Tahiti.  The toothfairy paid in Tahitian dollars too!
One of many incredible sunsets
This is a backdrop at Glamour Shots.  Not! So beautiful it doesn't look real.

The Holy Grail! LEGOLAND

Time seems to have blurred from the time we left Telluride to the time we arrived in San Diego, the opening port of our round the world adventure.  Why San Diego you might ask? Was it the scenery and famed architecture of Coronado, seeing the massive ships or the supersonic fighter jets of the US Navy and Marines, or even the animals of SeaWorld? No way!  We headed north to Carlsbad, to the Holy Grail of an 8 years old boys’ world – LEGOLAND CALIFORNIA was the first stop of our world destinations.  Yes, it was that super incredible world of those sublime, tactile,  and ever frustrating pieces to get apart that have been assembled by the millions and millions to create the most incredible things you can imagine. Much to our surprise, we ended up on a safari in the deepest wilds of Africa, and then on to see  the famous Sydney Opera House, the ever scenic Eifel Tower, the inspiring Mt Rushmore, the bright lights of New York City and the Statue of Liberty , the sights of San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge, a scene right out of New England, and the inimitable Strip in Las Vegas.  Who needs to go around the world when you have it all right here at LegoLand??  We also went to the planets Tatoine, Hoth and Endor to see the incredible Star Wars creations.  All of it was incredible to see, not to mention the really fun rides and roller coasters that gave us a thrill.   Bryce even managed to get his driver’s license while he was there.

We wiped the grins off of our faces after enjoying our day filled with sights, sounds, and thrills and headed north up I-5 to Los Angeles International  Airport.  Our day at Legoland curiously whetted our appetites for the world adventures to come.   Or flight to Tahiti was at  10pm that evening  and we were excited as ever to get to our next stop (except that meant flying to New Zealand to get there, but that is a whole other story.
